It requires a keen awareness and knowledge of Austin’s dynamic history to be successful here in the real estate sector Lesley Collins has both. Collins, who has lived in Austin for more than 34 years, moved to Texas after graduating from Pepperdine University and spent several years in New York City, where she became passionate about real estate.
She was fascinated by the city’s stunning and innovative architecture and spent her free time visiting museums and indoor shops to develop an understanding of the city’s architectural styles and details. Shortly thereafter, she brought her interest in architecture and home design to Austin and promptly moved into the world of interior design, as well as the restoration and sale of real estate.
As she honed her real estate skills, Collins knew it was time to move on to Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty. She takes pride in going above and beyond and enjoys working with buyers and sellers. Lesley is a firm believer in the power of technology and stays on the cutting edge of any new developments in the property market.
We spoke to Collins to find out more about their work and their drives.
CultureMap: What inspires you to do what you do?
Lesley Collins: My relationships with my customers inspire me. Above all, I want my customers to achieve their goals and live their dreams. It’s not just my passion, it’s my job.
CM: What advice would you give to people looking for their dream home?
LC: Be open and patient. Before we even look at a home, I ask questions like, “What do you expect?” and “What did you like about your last home and what didn’t you?” This helps us all get on the same page.
CM: And advice for those who sell?
LC: I advise them to let me prepare a pre-listing package so that they know what the market is like in their neighborhood. This will help you get a realistic price for your home. DECLUTTER too!
CM: Put Austin in three words.
LC: Strange, outside, water.
CM: What do you think of your “special ability”?
LC: Before real estate, I worked in the film industry. This taught me to engage with different personality types. I later owned a retail store selling high quality bedding and bath products, most of which were made in France or Italy. With this career I was able to do a lot of interior design and work with designers. I can go into a room and say what it needs.
CM: What might people not know about you?
LC: I’ve lived on both coasts: Malibu in California and New York City.
CM: Finish the sentence: “It’s a good day if …”
LC: It’s a good day I know I did another day!
