We are just past the summer solstice when the Austin Outdoor Living Tour kicks off on Saturday. Astronomically speaking, it’s the beginning of summer, and while we know our senses (or the thermometer) are telling us otherwise, it’s still a good time to see what landscape architects have to offer to help us make the season too to enjoy in a beautiful way when the heat approaches.
This is the first year for the tour, organized by the Modern Architecture and Design Society (also the organizers and hosts of the annual Austin Modern Home Tour). The organization’s founder, James Leasure, said the upcoming event is a “lighter, shorter” version of that event, but will give attendees the chance to talk to some of the best designers in town and get a good idea of what they’re doing can do – and what they can do inspires by upgrading their own rooms.
The self-guided tour takes participants to private homes in various parts of the city, including Brentwood, Tarrytown, East Austin, Rollingwood, Northwest Hills, and Lake Austin. Native Edge, Mark Odom Studio, Moontower and Austin Outdoor Design are some of the designers featured.
