The Southeast Austin family wakes up to find missing Christmas decorations
Two projectors were stolen and all but one of their inflatables were damaged.
Austin, Texas – – A family in southeast Austin said they went out this morning to find their Christmas decorations missing.
“What seems like nothing to some people is a lot to us,” said JJ Flores.
Flores said they weren’t the first in their neighborhood to be hit. She said in the past week or so about 20 houses had stolen lights, projectors, or inflatables.

For her and her family, however, the decorations were sentimental. Flores said her son bought the decorations for her as a Christmas present for a year and she told him this morning what happened. She said it was heartbreaking.
“It’s a family thing and we all have a little bit of it,” she said. “When this happens, it doesn’t just hurt one of us, it hurts us all.”
Two projectors were stolen and all but one of their inflatables were damaged. “He literally walked away, ran and pulled out my lights,” said Flores. “I mean there’s no other way to put it, but he was a grinch.”

However, Flores said she won’t let this ruin her Christmas spirit and now her display is getting even bigger. Because especially at this time it is important to spread holiday joy and hope.
“I think more houses have been decorated this year than I’ve seen in a long time,” she said. “It is our way of dealing with everything and giving hope to others and all of us.”
