Northeast Austin lands $150M campus from global defense contractor

The world’s third largest defense contractor will soon be based in northeast Austin. On August 11th, BAE Systems announced that it would expand its operations in the capital with a new $ 150 million facility near East Parmer Lane and I-35 .

BAE Systems’ new campus will be part of the Parmer Austin Business Park and will include engineering, manufacturing, laboratory facilities and office space. After its completion, the campus will employ 1,400 people, according to a press release.

UK-based BAE Systems is one of the world’s leading aerospace and defense technology companies. According to a press release, the North Austin facility will primarily serve customers of the US Department of Defense.

As of 2019, the company employed more than 600 people in its current East Austin office, where they work on autonomy technologies, cyber technology, electronic warfare, sensor development and manufacturing.

BAE Systems also pointed out the proximity of the new location to the Capital Factory and the US Army’s Futures Command.
