APD: Man shot dead in North Austin car

Several people were seen running away from the car, according to APD, but no suspects are in custody until Saturday night.

The search for a suspect for the death of a man in North Austin on Friday night is on.

Austin Police report that officers found a man shot dead in a vehicle near Mearns Meadow Boulevard shortly after 9 p.m. on Jan. 29. EMS tried life-saving measures but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Witnesses told police they said they had an argument and fight in the car before hearing multiple shots. Several people were seen running away from the car, according to APD, but no suspects are in custody until Saturday night.

“There is always a danger to the public, anytime,” said APD Sergeant Marcus Davis. “We have no suspects in custody, we don’t know if this was a known issue or if it was a random incident. So I would continue to emphasize whether someone has information to pass on to Homicide or can contact remain anonymous . “

Witnesses reported a brown or silver four-door sedan leaving the scene right after the shooting, APD says, and investigators believe it may have been a robbery.
