Man dies after being struck by 2 vehicles in North Austin

A man has died after Austin police said he was likely hit by two vehicles in North Austin.

APD has identified the deceased person in the road death on May 18 on the access road IH 35 to the south as Brian J. Box.

The officers responded to the 1900 block of N. IH 35 heading south for a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Police say the initial investigation found Box was on the road and was most likely hit by an unidentified vehicle that didn’t stop and provide assistance.

APD says a 2008 Saturn also hit Box when it was on the lane. Box was declared dead at the scene.

According to the police, the driver of the Saturn stayed on site and is cooperating with the investigation. Charges are unlikely to be brought.

A criminal investigation is underway into the first vehicle that Mr. Box hit and left the scene.

This marks the 42nd Austin fatal road accident in 2021, which resulted in 44 deaths that year. At the time of this crash in 2020, there were 34 fatal accidents with 36 fatalities.
