Another luxury hotel is checking into the South Congress. The Colton House Hotel, which is billed as a luxury property, has 80 suites that combine “residential luxury with the upscale amenities of a boutique hotel … in a modern yet authentic Texan setting.”
SoCo’s newest hotel is a few blocks from the touristy part of the Strip at 2510 S. Congress Ave. away, just behind HEB. Designed by Austin-based LEVY Architects, the hotel’s “suite-style” rooms offer more amenities and more space than the average hotel room. Studios, suites with one, two or three bedrooms are equipped with either a fully equipped kitchen or a kitchenette and a living room. Many have in-room washers and dryers.
Separate living spaces are customizable so travelers can zoom in on one room while kids play in another, or spend their time experiencing the capital as a local, an increasingly popular trend in domestic travel, especially among millennials.
“We’re introducing a brand new hotel category in Austin with an all-suite-based model that combines the benefits of an Airbnb stay with modern hotel amenities,” said David Krug, president of Inherit Hotel Group, the Chicago-based company that owns it Colton House: “The Colton House Hotel’s residential approach combines plenty of space and comfortable luxury for small groups, families and remote workers who are looking for more flexibility and personalization in today’s world.”
In addition to the accommodations, Colton House has its own café, Simonas Coffee + Cocktail Bar, which will open at the end of this month. In addition to coffee, tea, wine and spirits, Simona’s “has worked with local restaurants and caterers to bring an eclectic mix of the best local Austin dishes” to the hotel. The property is also home to The Parlor, a luxurious lounge ideal for enjoying cocktails or holding small gatherings.
Outside, the 5,000-square-foot The Backyard features three traditional living oak trees and is designed as an event space. Above the lawn is the 1,200 square meter penthouse, which also serves as an event space.
Other functions are:
The Lawn, an open play area for bocce, croquet, and lawn bowling
The library, a meeting room for up to 16 people
Club Room, a small meeting point with a children’s area with toys and games
a heated pool
Gym with Peloton bikes, a full yoga studio, and additional state-of-the-art equipment
Plans for the Colton House Hotel have been in the works since 2015, with an originally scheduled opening date in late 2019. When it was officially announced in 2018, the project primarily drew attention to its unusual location, a narrow 1.5-acre lot that previously housed it a chinese restaurant.
Reservations for the Colton House Hotel are now open. Opening prices start at $ 149.
