Legendary Austin barbecue joint temporarily shuts down due to COVID-19

The legendary Franklin Barbecue is temporarily wiping out smokers after an employee tests positive for COVID-19. The news was announced on Facebook late Tuesday, June 23rd. Owners Aaron and Stacy Franklin found the employee to “play a supportive role that is not about interacting with customers or working directly with our food”.

The employee in question hasn’t been to work for a week either, but the popular restaurant is still closing out of caution with customers and its own crew.

The Franklins say they will take the time to professionally clean the restaurant and ensure that no one from their organization tests positive.

“We really apologize for the inconvenience our closure is causing, especially for those of you who have already placed pickup orders in the next few days,” the Franklins write. “With a little luck we’ll be back with the smokers next week and we really appreciate your patience and understanding.”

The news was received online with strong support. Fans gave their approval and sent good wishes from Seattle, Italy and even Australia.
