Give back during the holidays: Austin organizations, food banks accepting donations

AUSTIN (KXAN) – As Austinites and Middle Texans grapple with the economic toll of the pandemic, food banks and nonprofits are there to ensure people are looked after.

Here is a list of places in the Austin area that you can donate for this holiday season.

Central Texas Food Bank: You can donate money to the Food Bank using a variety of options including online, over the phone, through the mail, and via Bitcoin. You can also donate groceries at its southeast Austin location at 6500 Metropolis Drive.

Caritas of Austin: The organization hosts a communal kitchen on weekdays, as well as a pantry that provides customers with take-away groceries. Items for both causes can be dropped off at 611 Neches Street during the week. You can also donate money online.

Endowed Communities: The organization helps families, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities, as well as a variety of other resources, provide affordable housing. Donations are currently being accepted to create gift cards that can be distributed to those affected by loss of wages due to the pandemic.

Mobile bread and fish: The organization supports the homeless by providing them with the essentials. At the moment they have set up a COVID-19 fund that you can donate money to.

Meals on Wheels Central Texas: The organization serves meals for seniors who cannot easily leave their homes to get food. So you can donate for them now.
