Have you always wanted to order breakfast bread, a cocktail to take away and have something notarized at the same time? Guys, do we have the space for you?
Wicky’s Walkup, the latest concept from the all-star team behind The Cavalier and Taco Fuego, opens on March 22nd at 2400 Webberville Rd. Wicky’s is known as the “Swamp Tiki Walkup Bodega” and is a quick walk-through window and terrace where guests can order sandwiches, cocktails and breakfast biscuits, as well as purchase bodega essentials and notarial services.
New England-style muffalettas and shrimp rolls, both served on Easy Tiger bread, are the stars of the menu and are available in vegetarian and vegan versions (beets for the muffaletta and jerky Jamaican jackfruit for the shrimp rolls). The menu is rounded off by salads, breakfast biscuits, sweet treats and an area that is exclusively dedicated to Tater Tots.
With Webberville Road designated as an open container area, there are frozen daiquiris to go – including a New Orleans-style hurricane – as well as canned cocktails and soft drinks like sodas and bottled water.
There is also a small selection of “Bodega Essentials” – wine, beer, cigarettes and liquor – as well as a notary public that can be purchased for USD 4 per stamp or is free with purchase.
While the concept is undeniably fun, owners Rachelle Fox and Chadwick Leger have had a serious fight for the past 12 months to keep their family business alive. In the early days of the pandemic, The Cavalier evolved into a takeaway market for essentials before the terrace finally reopened with an updated menu of delicious bar and cocktails. In December, the couple also launched Taco Fuego, a popup made entirely of ex-Taco Bell items that were removed from the fast food chain’s menu.
