Charges: Austin Boy Stops Domestic Attack Against Mother, Fatally Stabbed By Her Husband – WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – An Austin man was charged after an alleged brutal attack left his wife in the hospital and his 15-year-old stepson was dead.

Jaime Arquimides Vaca, 27, has been charged with three second degree murders and one first degree assault in Mower County.

According to the criminal complaint, an Austin police officer responded at 8:50 a.m. on December 15 on 808 3rd Avenue, northwest with the report that people had been stabbed by a man. When the officer arrived, they found a woman in the front yard who was bleeding from a stab wound in her neck. She said she was stabbed by her husband and her son, who was also stabbed, was inside.

Officers found the son on the couch and tried to breathe. He was taken to the Mayo Clinic and then flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester by helicopter, but died of his injuries.

While searching the house, officers found Vaca with a knife in the bathroom. When told to drop it but not comply, officers deployed a taser. He was then treated for minor injuries before being sent to Mower County Jail.

After that, officials cleared the house and found five children hiding upstairs. After an arrest warrant was issued, BCA agents found two knives in the bathroom.

In post-Miranda interviews with Vaca, he said he and his wife argued over his new job, which he quit the night before. They texted from separate rooms after he came home at night, but between 8:00 am and 9:00 am on December 15th, he went to her bedroom and they continued to argue. She said she was leaving him. Then he “choked” them and “darkened” them, according to the complaint.

He said he started stabbing his wife and his stepson came into the room and tried to stop him. He swung at the boy and stabbed him.

In a later interview, Vaca allegedly said, “I am a murderer.”

If Vaca is convicted on all four grounds, he could be sentenced to 120 years in prison.
