As part of an ambitious growth plan for coast-to-coast expansion, a California-based wellness brand opens a store in Austin in hopes of surprising locals with their superfood cafes.
Vitality Bowls, specializing in custom acai bowls and other antioxidant-rich menu items such as smoothies, fresh juices, soups, salads, and panini, plans to open the first three or four franchise stores in the Austin market within the next year up 18 months. According to the company, the selection of local locations is currently at an early stage.
After researching the area, Vitality Bowls targeted Austin as one of several U.S. expansion markets based on a variety of factors including the strong real estate market and the city’s business opportunities, not least the Austinites’ devotion to healthy people lifestyle .
“We conducted extensive market research and selected Austin as the primary market for the franchise expansion,” said Uriah Blum, chief operations officer of Vitality Bowls. “They have an optimistic culture and the customer demographics we were looking for, which were definitely attractive factors. The vast majority of Austin residents also live healthier and more active lives. This makes our expansion into the region a breeze as we know we have a customer base that is excited to see what we have to offer. “
Founded in 2011 by Roy and Tara Gilad in San Ramon, California, Vitality Bowls was developed as the result of the couple hoping to provide safe and healthy food alternatives to their daughter who suffers from severe food allergies. The concept of the superfood café has only caught on since then. The company now has 145 locations open or under development.
Although Vitality Bowls has to compete with local wellness brands like Juiceland and Blenders and Bowls, Austin officials will find that the demand for healthy food in Austin is likely to continue to grow as the city grows.
“The demand for health and wellness offerings is growing rapidly and now is the perfect time for Vitality Bowls to grow in Austin,” said Roy Gilad, Co-Founder and CEO. “As we near our 10th anniversary as a brand in 2021, we can take a step back and see how much we’ve achieved since franchising began. Vitality Bowls is much more than just a superfood café. It’s part of the American fitness and nutrition movement. It’s an exciting honor to be able to share this way of life with the Austin community. “
Vitality Bowls already has a number of locations in the Austin suburbs, including Cedar Park and San Marcos. However, as part of an ambitious growth plan for 2021, the company is focusing on Austin in a more significant capacity to sell multiple franchise locations and open 10-15 new locations in Austin, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix and Portland.
“Austin is a growing city with the right energy that we’re looking for in a market. They already have a great restaurant scene [and] We believe Vitality Bowls could really make it better. More and more Austin residents are placing an emphasis on health and wellbeing in their lives. This gives us the opportunity to reach our ideal customer base, ”says Blum, noting that the company will continue to pursue other markets in Texas. “As part of the 2021 growth plan, Austin and Fort Worth will be the two Texas markets that we will focus on.”
