Austin voters speed ahead with $7.1 billion public transportation plan

KVUE – Project Connect has come one step closer to reality. The city of Austin has triumphed over Proposition A or Project Connect.

According to the city guides, Austinites voted in Proposal A, which approves the city’s property tax rate and provides 8.75 cents of the operational and maintenance portion of the tax rate for Project Connect, Capital Metro’s $ 7.1 billion public transportation plan .

By approving Proposal A, voters ensured that Project Connect’s initial investment will complete, according to the city.

“With the passing of Prop A, voters gave the go-ahead for a unique opportunity to revolutionize our transport infrastructure,” City Manager Spencer Cronk said in a statement. “Project Connect will be better for the health, environment, safety and security of our residents. [and] prosperity.”
