AUSTIN, Texas – A lawn full of lights is what you find in a house north of Austin.
Kevin Jones has been decorating his house with Christmas lights for years. He’s using about 50,000 lights this year. Once everything is set up there are still a few changes to be made to the tree.
“I have to get out of here and make it tighter because there is too much space between these two,” said Jones.
Jones doesn’t waste time getting in the vacation mood. Once Halloween is over, Christmas is full.
“The feedback we get from people who come through trick or treating is like this,” Hey, we love your lights. We can’t wait until Christmas! “Said Jones.
And it’s not just the sights, it’s the sounds – Kevin synced all the lights to Christmas music. The lights flash at the different beats.
“Find out what to plug and where, so what’s flashing on what is probably the most time-consuming part, even more than erasing it,” said Jones.
All of this takes a lot of light and a lot of strength. Follow the strings and you will land on several plastic boxes around the lawn. They help keep the whole thing going.
“This is where your communications cable goes from the other controllers and then to the other controllers,” said Jones.
Jones says there’s a slight bump on his electricity bill, but there’s no price to put on the joy it brings to passers-by.
“See the smiles on people’s faces, even inside you will hear children enjoy themselves
out. That makes it worthwhile more than anything, “said Jones.
