Austin police are seeking help solving the 2013 murder case
APD asks for help solving a cold case. Police are looking for the suspect who shot Roberto Reyna in East Austin in 2013.
Austin, Texas – – The Austin Police are seeking help from the public with a cold case. Police are looking for the suspect who shot Roberto Reyna in East Austin in 2013.
APD investigators say they spoke to witnesses, family members and those who knew Reyna to identify the suspect, but so far all known leads have been exhausted.
The shooting took place on Reyna’s 36th birthday on July 19, 2013 at around 12:40 a.m. Police said they reacted to the 3500 block on Gonzales Street and found Reyna in the living room of his grandmother’s house. Reyna was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Murder in the cold case
It’s been almost four years since an East Austin mother lost her son.

A family member told police that he and Reyna were swimming in the pool behind the house when a vehicle pulled up. He said the suspect got out of the vehicle and headed for the back yard. Reyna spoke to the suspect for a few minutes before the family member said the suspect pulled a gun and shot Reyna.
The family member and Reyna went into the house and there Reyna collapsed.

The suspect is described as follows:
- Hispanic male
- Estimated between 5’7 “and 5’9”
- He was bald or had very short hair at the time of the shooting
- Last seen in a knee-length black t-shirt and dark blue jeans
Reyna owned a upholstery shop and taught his younger cousins the trade. He was planning to do a degree in business. At the time of his death, his family was looking forward to a trip to the lake the next day to celebrate Reyna’s birthday.

The murder case in East Austin is cold, the mother does not give up
On Tuesday, it was three years since an East Austin man was shot and killed in front of his grandmother’s house. The shooter escaped.
