Austin Food Event Cancellations Because of Coronavirus Concerns

Amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Texas and Austin banning events with 250 or more attendees through Friday, May 1, events in Austin will be canceled or postponed for safety reasons. Here is an ongoing list of Austin-related food and drink-related events that are being canceled or postponed (along with many SXSW neighboring events):

South by southwest – The 10-day technology, film, music and arts festival should start today. The Mayor of Austin, Steve Adler, declared the state of the “local disaster” last Friday, thereby canceling the conference. Badges are non-refundable but can be used next year. (originally planned from Friday March 13th to Sunday March 22nd)

Rodeo Austin – The annual cattle show, rodeo, concert series and carnival are now canceled but will take place next year. Refunds will be figured out. (originally planned from Saturday, March 14th to Saturday, March 28th)

Luck Reunion and Potluck – Willie Nelson’s one day music festival and potluck dinner was originally planned, but has been canceled since yesterday. Tickets can be used for next year’s event. (originally scheduled for Wednesday March 18th [potluck] and Thursday March 19th [festival])

Live fire – In light of SXSW and the ban on mass gatherings, the Austin Food & Wine Alliance has decided to postpone the event with a focus on beef. Refunds will be issued. (originally planned for Thursday April 2nd)

Far East Festival – The Austin Asian Food Festival was one of the first events to be canceled due to concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus. Refunds will be issued. (originally scheduled for Sunday March 29th).

Wonder Women of Wine Conference – The women-centric wine organization is postponing its conference to a future date. Current tickets are valid for the date to be determined. (originally planned from Saturday, March 28th to Sunday, March 29th)

Austin Food & Wine Festival – Finally, the Food Festival announced that it would postpone the three-day event to November. (originally planned from Friday April 24th to Sunday April 26th)

Hot Luck Festival – The Aaron Franklin, James Moody and Mike Thelin food and music festival will be postponed until next year. (originally from Thursday, May 21st to Sunday, May 24th)
