Artisan breads from popular Texas bakery are now available in Austin

Austin is finally getting a taste of Houston’s iconic Bread Man Baking Company. The bakery announced an expansion of its partnership with Austin’s own Whole Foods Market, which will distribute four of its signature breads to stores in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Starting Tuesday October 27th, Whole Foods is offering four seasonal breads exclusively available in stores: Pumpkin Spice Brioche, White Chocolate Orange Challa, Jalapeño Cheddar Sourdough, and Chocolate and Cherry Sourdough. Like all Bread Man products, they are made from locally sourced ingredients and contain no artificial additives, preservatives or high fructose corn syrup.

“Expanding within Whole Foods is a dream come true and we are thrilled to see this relationship grow,” said Tasos Katsaounis, CEO and founder of Bread Man Baking Company, in a statement. “The opportunity to introduce our products to a new audience is exciting. Whole Foods gave us the creative freedom to create seasonal flavors, so we got together as a team and immediately explored our own favorite flavor combinations for the vacation. “

Bread Man was founded in 2018 and has grown rapidly. Initially, Katsaounis started out as a hobbyist who rekindled his childhood interest in baking for friends and family. An enthusiastic response to pictures of his sandwiches on social media – along with encouragement from his wife, Houston radio legend Roula Christie – inspired him to quit his job as a management consultant and become an entrepreneur.

Katsaounis began selling his bread to Houston restaurants as well as farmers markets in the Houston area, Whole Foods, and select HEB stores.

“Six months into the Bread Man Baking Company’s existence, Whole Food contacted us and it was a dream come true,” added Katsaounis. “In order to expand our reach not only to the entire state of Texas but also to the neighboring states, I never imagined that this would result from the fulfillment of a passion that began in my home kitchen.”
