8 things to know in Austin food now: Backyard bar mows into Bouldin

Bouldin Acres, a playful new concept of the power behind the BBQ area EastSide TavernThe restaurant and bar are located on S. Lamar Blvd. in South Austin in 2027 and offer an accessible menu of Texas and American dishes, a full bar, and loads of fun and games – including full pickleball (a hybrid of tennis and badminton courts.

Less than a year after opening the first Austin location at Cedar Park Ike’s love & sandwiches spreads to two other locations in central Texas. The first is in the University Oaks Mall at 201 University Oaks Blvd. at Round Rock, which opens Thursday, January 30th with free sandwiches for the first 25 customers and $ 5 deals for the rest of the day. The second location, 301 N. Guadalupe St. # 154 in San Marcos, opens the following day with similar offers.

Don Japanese, which temporarily closed its shop on Guadalupe Street in early January, is back on site. From January 22nd, the Favorit will be distributing it on the Donburi campus in the University Co-op at 2246 Guadalupe Street. The menu includes bestsellers under the physical address, including the hugely popular Don and Veggie King bowls.

A new bar appears to be in the works at 301 West Ave., Set 301, the location of the downtown Tony The Independent Condominium complex. A concept that is named cheekily Co-dependent has applied for late-hour mixed drinks at the site, according to records from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. There’s no word on when the spot will debut; The place doesn’t seem to have any social media or web presence yet.

Mueller neighborhood pizza restaurant Stella Public House Quietly closed on November 25, 2019 after a two-year period. According to an open Facebook post, the owners wanted to focus on the two locations of Halcyon Coffee Bar & Lounge. The original Stella outpost in San Antonio’s hip Southtown neighborhood will live on.

The store also announced the appointments of Shangri-La and Liberty Bar Vet Josh Cates as beverage director and general manager and food scientist Anne-Lise Emig as a pastry chef. A fascinating pop-up dining experience takes on black on February 10th. REM II is a collaboration between Kris Kim and Larry Nguyen of the acclaimed restaurant The Willows Inn on Lumni Island outside of Seattle. Using local ingredients, the pair plan to “explore food through the progression of dream cycles,” according to a press release. Tickets are $ 90, with drink purchases optional.

Andy Wiggington and Nick Krupa of South Austin Coffee Shop Patika have announced a new retail line in collaboration with longtime managers Kyle Smith and Tony Smith. Superthing Specialized in small batch coffee from sustainable farms in Guatemala, Colombia, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Brazil and Kenya. The beans are available in 10-ounce bags at both Patika concepts and are brewed at Olamaie, Flitch Coffee, Wright Brothers Brew and Brew, SouthBites in the south of Southwest, Mañana Coffee and Jester King Brewery.
