7 things to know in Austin food now: Popular east side dive bar closes

Openings and closings

As the saying goes, nothing can remain gold. Stay gold, the craft cocktail, live music dive at East Cesar Chavez has closed after six years, but the bar doesn’t stay empty for long. As first reported in the Austin Chronicle, the second location is from Long Play Lounge, which began in Highland as a collaboration between Will Tanner of Hole in the Wall, well-known musician Mike Therieau and John Doe of rock pioneers X from Los Angeles, will open its second location in the east. According to Chronicle, there is no official opening date, but Tanner promises a “record-setting atmosphere, but with more space and a stage for real concerts”.

A new food truck with cooking drive has recently parked at Still Austin Whiskey Co. on St. Elmo Road. Led by Wes Dills of North Carolina, The bearded bakery company offers a variety of pampering sweet and savory dishes including Bubba’s BLT (loaded with chicken bacon); a hearty cheesecake with caramelized onions, pesto, bacon, and rocket; and even the ATX C4 cookie made with Still’s Straight Bourbon whiskey. Located in Still’s quiet Whiskey Garden at 440 East St. Elmo Rd, Ste. Q, The Bearded Baking Company’s full menu is available Tuesday through Friday from 12pm to 8pm and Saturday through Sunday from 11am to 8pm. The trailer’s brunch menu (plus cocktails from Still, including a classic Bloody Mary and the adventurous Lady Marmalade) is served from 11am to 3pm on weekends.

The best part of Super Bowl Sunday starts early at a brewery in southwest Austin. For the entire weekend before the big game (February 4-7) Beerburg Brewing Throws a barkin’-good puppy bowl party. During this time, proceeds from all purchases of its flagship American Light Lager, Burg Light, will be donated to Austin Pets Alive! In addition, good boys (and girls!) Can enjoy a round of zoomies through the brewery’s huge unleashed dog park, which is filled with extra toys for the occasion.

What kind of TV dinner could get customers to make $ 35 a pop? The kind of Kemuri Tatsu-ya, that’s what. Inspired by the restaurant’s hugely popular Omakase Club, the new Kermuri TV dinner series is chef-curated bento boxes that are now available for pick-up and delivery. Each of the limited-amount dinners serve one and feature a selection of omakase favorites, including home-smoked kemuri brisket, green yuki beans, pesto edamame, and mini guaca sack (offerings may change regularly depending on ingredients and seasonality). The Kemuri TV Dinner as well as take-away cocktails, sake and beer can be ordered online from Wednesday to Sunday from 6pm to 10pm on the Kemuri Tatsu-ya website.

An inspired collaboration between local pasta cup makers Chop chop and Korean favorite Oseyo makes it easy to send pasta to the one you love – even if that special person is yourself. The collaboration between the two companies, currently available for pre-order on the Chop Chop website, has resulted in a special noodle cup made from Korean oxbone broth (to celebrate the Year of the Ox, of course). The noodle cup, known as the Lunar Firecracker, is accompanied by mandu dumplings with a spicy ox and shrimp filling. Mugs are available while stocks last and can be ordered for collection on February 12 from Oseyo at E. Cesar Chavez St. 1628 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Are you looking for a solid early V-Day gift? Look no further than Texas Hill Country Wineries Wine Lovers Celebration. The celebration takes place from February 1st to February 26th and is one of four self-led pass events that the non-profit trade association organizes throughout the year. With the purchase of the event’s digital passport, guests can enjoy up to four free winery tastings daily at any of the 45 participating wineries, including Pedernal cellar, Becker vineyards, and Hye Meadow Winery, among other. Pass holders also receive a 15 percent discount on the purchase of three bottles. Passport cards are valid now through February and cost $ 65 per person and $ 100 for a couple’s passport.

As the highly anticipated Super Bowl performance of The Weeknd on February 14 approaches (and, oh yeah, a soccer game), local restaurants are releasing their annual selection of specials for watch parties. However, a hard seltzer brand strives to make its contribution to game day for years to come. Based in Austin Powerful waves started a petition to recognize Super Monday (that is the hangover Monday after the Super Bowl) as a national holiday without work. In a recent poll, more than 40 percent of workers agreed that #mightychillmonday should indeed be a national holiday.
