Two other Austin restaurants call it finished – but not for the most obvious reason. Korean fried chicken store Donkey Mo’s and Roba Katsu & Teriyaki will close their locations in the popular H Mart food court later this month. The owner does not cite the pandemic, but the incompatible differences to the Asian supermarket chain.
“Due to a disagreement with the management of H Mart, Roba Katsu and Donkey Mo’s will end their lease at the Food Court Market Eatery. It’s been a difficult relationship and we’re excited to continue, ”said Min Choe, CEO of CKN Hospitality, which operates both concepts.
Roba Katsu’s last day of operations at H Mart is March 21st, and Choe hopes to reopen the concept – home of “the juiciest, heartiest pork and chicken schnitzel in Austin” – in a new location in the near future, admits that no immediate ones Plans are in the works.
The last day Donkey Mo’s Korean fried chicken picks up at H Mart is March 28th. However, the restaurant’s Lakeline Mall location will remain open. With the closure of the H Mart commercial, Choe plans to add another location in Austin to the concept.
“We encourage our customers to keep visiting our location in the Lakeline Mall, which has the same menu and is available for takeout and delivery,” says Choe. “We are also actively looking for an expansion location for Donkey Mo’s in east or south Austin.”
Local fans of Korean dishes don’t need to panic in the meantime, as the CKN hospitality concept Jjim Korean Braised BBQ, which specializes in family servings of spicy pork rib jjim and beef short rib galbi jjim, is now in operation at Lamar Union South Austin.
